Aaron and Jonnie Helfrich

Owners and trip leaders, Aaron and Jonnie Helfrich, met twenty-five years ago on a multi-day trip on the Middle Fork of the Salmon. Five years later, they married. Four years after that, both kids were on the scene, and Jonnie would need to stay home in the summers to raise them. A Helfrich Outfitter LLC was born, because she couldn't survive a summer without being on a river.

Garrett Helfrich

Aaron and Jonnie’s son has loved the outdoors since he could remember; it’s in his blood. He started rowing a drift boat on his own when he was 12. He started guiding rafts in 2013 at age 17, the youngest guide on the river, but with lots of river-running experience. Garrett proved himself a valuable asset on the team, and his quick smile is disarming. He’s proud of his family’s river heritage and takes his place among the 4th generation of Helfrich guides. He’s floated many rivers across Oregon and in Idaho.
He is also an avid hunter and angler, spending his free time from school and baseball in the outdoors. If you’re up for a rock-throwing challenge, grab a rock!

Leah Helfrich

Leah Helfrich started helping in the business as soon as she was toddling, helping her mom move gear around. Each year, she's taken on more responsibilities and has proven herself a valuable member of the team. She might answer the phone when you call. She certainly will be involved in food prep for lunches. You may even see her on one of your trips.

Matt Estes

Matt Estes is a second-generation river guide who grew up in the Willamette Valley. River water runs through his veins feeding his passion for the river and leading to over 1000 guided trips down the McKenzie. This veteran guide has played on Oregon's most challenging and popular rivers. He loves the outdoors and sharing the experience with everyone. His contagious smile and warm personality are matched only by his professional spirit. If Matt's not rafting or fishing, you can find him cooking in the kitchen, hiking the trails, skiing the slopes, panning for gold, foraging for mushrooms or playing lots of softball. Matt's favorite saying? "A good day on the river is better than a great day anywhere else.”

Teresea Stafford

Rafting is Teresea Stafford's passion, and everyone in her boat and on the river will know it. She has been guiding for eighteen years, so don't let her nickname, Rookie, fool you. Her love of the outdoors goes back to when she was young, hunting and fishing with her grandpa in Oregon's High Lakes region.

Bryce Johnson

It all started for Bryce Johnson when he was five. His grandpa decided to take him steelhead fishing and about halfway through the trip, he let Bryce row the drift boat; he was instantly hooked. As he grew older, his love of the river only grew stronger. Every free moment was spent either in the mountains, skiing or on the river, fishing or rafting. He has always been an outdoor enthusiast, and there is nothing he likes more than sharing his love of nature with others.
